THE ONE-YEAR RESTRICTED LICENSE WAITING PERIOD
How Not Knowing This State Requirement Could
Ruin Your Teens Plans To Get Their Restricted License
The Most Important Thing Parents Need To Know
Realizing that behind the wheel experience was critical to reducing teen accidents, the Kansas Graduated Drivers License was designed to ensure that teens to get more experience behind the wheel before getting a restricted license. They did so by prohibiting issuance of a Restriced License until one year had passed s imposing a one year waiting period after receiving their State Permit requiring students to be supervised while driving for a full year THERE IS A ONE YEAR WAITING PERIOD AFTER OBTAINING THE LAMINATED STATE PERMIT BEFORE A TEEN IS ELIGIBLE FOR A RESTRICTED LICENSE. WHICH MEANS, YOUR TEEN MUST GET THE STATE PERMIT WHEN THEY TURN 14 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A RESTRICTED LICENSE WHEN THEY TURN 15.
And Here's Why It's So Important To Know...
Basically, the One Year Permit Rule means the date a teen obtains their State Instruction Permit, which is basically the old "Learners Permit", will determine the date when they are eligible to get their Restricted License. Therefore, If You Want Your Teen TO GET THEIR RESTRICTED LICENSE WHEN THEY TURN 15, THEY MUST GET THEIR STATE ISSUED PERMIT AS SOON AS THEY TURN 14!

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
Our Driving School Course begins with a One Day 8-Hour Classroom Session. Upon passing our written test at the end of the session, your teen will be issued a temporary Driving School Instruction Permit which, when presented at a Drivers License Office, may be upgraded to the State Issued Permit with no further testing required. That's when the one year permit clock starts and your teen is on their way to meeting the requirements for their Restricted License.
The Course also includes 6 Hours of Driving Instruction that, when successfully completed, earns the student a Certificate Of Completion, which may be exchanged for the appropriate Restricted License at the Drivers License Office with no Driving Test required.

We Teach Teens How To Avoid Collisions
6 Hours Of Driving Instruction
Our Driving Instruction provides the State Required 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction from one of our State Licensed Driving Instructors. Students drive with the same Instructor for all lessons, in our exclusive fleet of late model Toyota Camry's, for the most consistent driving experience. Upon passing their driving instruction, students are presented with a Certificate Of Completion that can be exchanged for the appropriate license without having to take the driving test at the Drivers License Exam Station.
Recommended Practice Driving
The State of Kansas requires students to have logged a minimum of 25 hours to obtain a Restricted License at 15, as well as for the 16 year old Restricted License. More important, statistics show that for every hour of practice driving a teens chance of being involved in a collision goes down exponentially.

Driving Lessons From School Office
Three 2-Hour Lessons
Before Lesson #1 - 0 To 5 Hours Of Practice Time
-
HAVING NO DRIVING EXPERIENCE AT ALL IS NOT A PROBLEM. It is the first few drives that are the most challenging for a teen, and riskiest for the adult driving with them. Getting familiar with the gas and brake pedals, steering wheel, and general operation of the car can be overwhelming. Because our cars are equipped with dual brakes, and our experienced instructors know what to anticipate on those first drives, it is fine for your student to have no experience driving before their first lesson. If you prefer to put in some time with them, we recommend at least a couple of hours practicing in large, unoccupied parking lots before heading out onto the road.
Before Lesson #2 - At Least 15 Hours Of Practice Time
-
Students should practice the skills learned in their first lesson before their second lesson. Around 15 hours total practice time will prepare the student for the additional skills to be introduced in the next lesson.
Before Lesson #3 - At Least 25 Hours Of Practice Time
-
Our goal by the students third lesson is to have enough practice time to ensure they are skilled enough to adequately complete the driving portion of the course with this final drive. It is after successfully finishing the third lesson that the student will receive the Certificate of Completion that can be exchanged for the appropriate Restricted License without having to take the driving test at the Drivers License Exam Station.
