Required Documents for a Kansas Permit or License

Bring original documents. Kansas does not accept copies or photos on a phone.

What to bring:

  • One proof of identity, such as a state-issued birth certificate or U.S. passport.

  • One proof of Social Security number, such as a Social Security card, W-2, or pay stub showing the full number.

  • Two proofs of Kansas address, such as a utility bill, bank statement or lease. If your teen has none in their own name, a parent or guardian can fill out a Certification of Address with two proofs of their own address and a photo ID.

  • Name-change papers, if the name doesn't match on every document.
